For minor shock and water protection, the Blackberry 8350i original premium skin does the job.  Not as thick as the rugged skin, the premium skin maintains the phones slim profile so it is easy to slip it into a pocket or purse.

Like the Rugged Skin, the premium skin was designed by Blackberry to have all the correct port and button openings.  It can be easily put on the phone or taken off.   The open face provides no protection for buttons or the screen so adding a screen protector may be a wise move.
